Challenge
How can we help parents during pregnancy and parenting, especially first-timers, to cope with a tough stage physically, emotionally, and at work? The feeling of not being able to cope, of forgetting something important, or that some information about the health of our sons and daughters is false, is terrifying at this stage.
What is
Growink is a solution to help parents organize and inform themselves in the realm of their children's health. The aim is to be as automated as possible and integrated into parents' monthly agenda during the early childhood stage. As a result, we have an MVP in the form of an Android app that is scalable to other platforms and other areas of the child's development.
Problem
To resolve it and focus on the solution, I used the agile Design Thinking methodology, which I believed to be the most suitable, to identify the problem and solve it effectively from the user's perspective.
The first hurdle we faced was the overwhelming range of approaches we could take. I considered topics such as education, bureaucracy, security, childhood, conciliation, adolescence, babies, pregnancy, and health. These are already very broad topics, and I decided to stick with the one that seemed most complicated to understand for laypeople: HEALTH in infants.
Results
As a result of the investigation, applying techniques such as desk research, personal interviews, benchmark and surveys, I obtained valuable data on the customs of parents during upbringing.
65.4%
A large number of parents organize themselves with the physical vaccination card.
82.7%
From parents and mothers, ask family and acquaintances about the health issues of their children.
67.3%
A big part of parents get information through Google and reference pages
Post-pandemic situation
Bureaucratic burden has shifted from users to professionals. In addition, the decreased number of staff over the last decade is causing the neglect of preventive tasks in primary care in favor of returning to the previous outpatient method, which involves attending to many patients.
89%
Trust in vaccines in Spain and surrounding countries.
In developed countries, distrust in vaccines is gradually increasing.
94.6%
It is the vaccination rate in Spain. Cases of previously eradicated diseases like measles are increasing.
FOCUS
Based on the data obtained in the research, with the insights extracted and putting ourselves in the user's shoes, we discovered that the major friction points and where we can offer relief as user experience designers are in two main aspects:
ORGANIZATION - INFORMATION.
Some insights:
The vaccination rate is high and is slightly decreasing because COVID brought with it a lot of misinformation and distrust in a part of the population.
Each autonomous community has its own healthcare management app for citizens, because healthcare in Spain is decentralized
The organization of parents on health issues concerning their children is quite chaotic because they depend on their memory, notices, administrative guidelines in many formats.
challenge reformulation
By prioritizing the insights obtained, we can reformulate the challenge into a more achievable, focused, and personalized one for our user persona, Laura:
How could we help Laura organize and inform herself about the health of her children.
Proposed solution
App with a profile of your children with everything organized, automated and centralized.
Wireframes and architecture
With the main functions defined, the structure of the app can now be outlined using a site map and a wireflow to define the flows. This wireflow has already allowed us to test it with real users and perceive failures and successes.
Website architecture
Wireflow
Corporate image
For the creation of the corporate image, accessibility has been taken into account when selecting colors, so that it enjoys good contrast (AAA) and visibility. The naming is a mix of the words grow and wink, indicating how quickly this stage of life passes. Free up time to enjoy it!
app flows
In this MVP there are four main flows. The main and most important one, as automation largely depends on it, is onboarding. Also important for important functionalities are the profile, the agenda, and the information with its FAQs and search engine.

Interactive prototype
Through the high interactive prototype and various flows with specific tasks, we were able to test it with real users and refine the result obtained with the usability tests carried out with the wireflow. I like to do it through shadowing and capture the sensations with the high-fidelity wireframe.

Projection
I think it has great potential, as it has great scalability to other areas of children's development. if it grows large enough, it can be offered to different regional administrations as a complement to their own apps, to private healthcare companies, and to pediatric associations.
ideas
Parents organize themselves by improvising on the go, it's a good idea to centralize and digitize it into a single app that you carry with you all the time.
Automating parental tasks helps free the mind and focus on other things.
Parents are going to have plenty of time from now on to dedicate to their true passions, whether their children or not.
futuribles
IN A FIRST PHASE
Tracking and measurement of KPIs quantifying success.
Introduce interesting features that have been left out, such as flyers and electronic prescriptions.
IN A SECOND PHASE
Expand to other fields. Administrative, educational, sports... Always integrated from the app itself.
